Daily Holes help: controls and sound
Daily Holes help concerns our independent game at daily-holes.org. The daily course has nine holes selected from eighteen original layouts. Shots and personal scores run in your browser; there is no account or score-upload service. If something behaves differently from what you expect, keep the displayed UTC date, hole and message before restarting. How to play explains the rules rather than a troubleshooting workaround.
I cannot find the game controls
Play requires JavaScript. The rules remain readable without it, but the game cannot run. Use a current browser with scripts allowed for this site. If a blocker reports the game script, check that site-specific block before reloading. The main button sits below the course and changes from Lock the line to Swing, then Next hole. The menu holds optional settings instead of adding another row of shot buttons.
On a narrow screen, swipe the club strip to see all nine clubs. If browser text is enlarged, the layout may grow; controls should remain reachable rather than being clipped. Report your viewport and font setting if a button cannot be reached.
Dragging does not aim or hit the ball
Drag to move the camera; tap the map to set the aiming center. Press Lock the line when the moving line points along your route, then Swing to stop power. Releasing a drag is deliberately not a shot. Use the return-to-ball control if you have moved away. A canceled touch gesture or a held keyboard key should not produce an extra stroke.
The camera stays steady during timing. On the focused map, Left and Right adjust aim, Up and Down choose clubs, and Enter or Space activates the current stage. Tab reaches other controls. Use Cancel to reconsider a locked direction without losing a stroke.
The ball went somewhere unexpected
Check the locked direction, power, wind and lie. A clean power hit cannot correct a line locked too far left or right. An overswing beyond the 86–94 band increases that line error and reduces distance. Club yardage describes carry before wind and rollout; rough and sand reduce it, and stone can add run after landing.
Water adds one penalty and moves the ball to the marked safe drop. Flying over water is allowed. Green rings count only after the ball settles, so crossing a green does not finish a ball that stops outside it. The result message and shots/penalties/putts breakdown explain the score. If they disagree with what you saw, include the club, lie and landing in your report.
The timing is too fast
Turn on Slower timing (assisted) in the menu. It slows both stages while keeping the same sequence and scoring rules. That round keeps its assisted label even if you turn assistance off again. Assisted results are separate from standard records. If the moving line stutters, close a resource-heavy background page and try again; a fast meter and an unstable frame rate are different problems worth reporting separately.
Sound or music is silent
Start play or use an audio control to allow playback. Check the separate effects, ambience and music controls, your device volume and silent-mode settings. Music starts off. Switching tabs pauses audio; on return, a deliberate action may be needed if the browser refuses playback. A rejected or unavailable sound system does not prevent shots.
If sounds are delayed, compare a phone speaker and headphones when practical and note the device you used. The game generates audio in the browser and does not need microphone permission. Muting music does not mute effects unless you disable that separate control.
Saved progress and history help
My progress or record is missing
Use the same browser, profile and site address. A private tab, another device or a local-preview address has separate storage. Check for a saving warning. Without working storage, the current tab remains playable but recovery after closing is not guaranteed. Copy or download a completed result before leaving.
If a warning says the browser cannot safely coordinate saves across tabs, existing records stay untouched and new play lasts only in this session. Use a current browser on the secure production address. Do not delete data while trying to recover a round, and avoid opening several copies of the same unfinished challenge.
The daily game has its own v4 save and course revision. Earlier v3 and three-hole preview scores remain separate because their rules and hole counts differ. We cannot restore deleted scores from a server. Privacy explains exactly what the browser keeps.
Reloading did not undo my swing
Accepted input saves before the flight animation. Reloading restores that same shot and result; it is not a free retry. A line can be canceled before swinging without a stroke. If storage failed before acceptance, follow the message rather than assuming the shot was saved. Note whether the interruption happened during power, flight or the hole result.
Another tab changed my progress
Two tabs share this browser’s daily-game record. If one accepts a shot or advances a hole, the other adopts the newer state rather than overwriting it with stale progress. Continue in one tab. Confirmed deletion also clears the other tab’s displayed score, so an old open tab cannot restore the data you removed.
Restarting an unfinished round needs confirmation and preserves completed records. Deleting daily-game data is different: it removes current progress, results and preferences. Older-version saves remain separate.
The date or course is different
Dates use UTC and your device clock. Around local midnight, today’s UTC date may differ from your local calendar. Check that clock if two devices disagree. An unfinished round keeps its original date and course revision after UTC midnight; a new round uses the current date.
Players on the same UTC date and course revision get the same layouts and wind. A result saved under an earlier revision belongs to that revision’s course. Compare the displayed date and version before treating two rounds as the same challenge.
First, best, practice or streak looks wrong
First is the first completed nine-hole challenge for that date and mode. After completing today, practice can improve best without replacing first. An unfinished or restarted attempt is not a completed practice round. Standard and assisted records have separate totals; assistance used midway stays marked.
History shows up to thirty completed UTC dates, not thirty individual attempts. A streak counts consecutive completed dates and may exceed thirty; missing a date breaks the sequence. Clearing data resets those local records. A capped hole is valid but marked: Pick up records par plus five rather than pretending the ball reached the cup.
Sharing help and interrupted play
I cannot copy, download or share my result
Finish all nine holes to create the round result. Clipboard permissions can block copying; use the visible result text and your browser’s Copy command instead. The score image is generated locally. A download or device share feature may be unavailable in a browser, so text remains another way to keep the result.
Opening a share sheet does not prove anything was posted. Canceling is reported as canceled, and a rejected request is not reported as success. Choose where to send the text or image yourself. The card uses each hole’s result relative to par and includes its date, version, total, mode and daily-holes.org.
Switching away pauses sound and unaccepted timing. On return, inspect the current state before pressing the main button again. During an accepted flight, another shot is disabled; with working saving, a reload resolves that accepted input once. Reduced motion removes nonessential movement while retaining the line, power and result feedback needed to play.
If Daily Holes help does not resolve the problem, contact us with the UTC date, course version, hole, browser, input method, expected result and exact message. Avoid sending passwords or unrelated browser-data exports. You can also return to today’s course after checking that your active progress is intact.
